the x1.4 is a great extender. on a 2.8 lens. x2.0 gives you a 5.6 lens which makes focusing sometimes very hard or even impossible. this is why a lot of people dont like the x2.0. also the quality of your photos will go down a lot more than on a 1.4.

for the gap to 70mm. i would go with a 24-70 f/2.8 its pretty heavy but awesome lens. what body r u shooting?

Hiya Kay

I'm a budding sports photographer,i have been doing digital photography now for 2 years and coming to grips with my canon 40d,trying landscapes, macro, sport and basically shooting everyday at something or someone :).I have found a niech in the market where i live and have decided to apply myself to sports photography,i'm currently upgrading my gear and will be ready to shoot for real next February,i'm buying a 70 - 200 mm f2.8 IS ,along with a 1.4 extender for some reason i hear the 2x extender is not good for this lens/body.I'm also looking at a lens to fill the gap up to 70mm in a L series lens for sports photography and also perhaps suit my interest in Landscape mode.I live in a town which is 50 min from Christchurch and want to tap into the sports market there as no-one else is,and N.Z. is sports mad as you may know :)
Any thoughts or comments welcome

I love good sports photography. My ex boyfriend was a horse racing photographer and we used to go to all the big races. I think it would be really fun to make a living photographing sports.
